Jürgen Klopp has revealed why new signing Andrew Robertson who joined from Hull City last month has been MIA from Liverpool’s recent match day squads.
Andy Robertson joined Liverpool from Hull City for £10m last month but so far has missed the Reds’ first two competitive games despite seemingly being fit enough to feature. So where is he? Jürgen Klopp finally spoke on the matter in his pre-Palace press conference this afternoon.
The German revealed that despite Robertson being completely match fit – and impressing in pre-season – the former Hull City man is not quite up to speed with the intensity levels which Klopp’s Liverpool side employ.
The Scot joined Liverpool last month but while he took part in the Reds’ pre-season tour of Germany and Dublin, he didn’t feature for more than 45 minutes in any of the fixtures and Klopp has hinted that he will require a little longer to bed in.
“He is in a good moment,” Klopp told reporters in his pre-match presser.
“His development so far is really good. He has adapted well and is a really, really good player. It is how it is, though, with a specialist left full-back. You can play but you can also not be in the squad.”
“He is in a really good way and everything is fine from my side.”
“He came in late and has to adapt to our style of play and all that stuff, but everything is ok… We came back yesterday and had a little session, and it was an intense game in Hoffenheim so we have one or two little things with players which we have to see.”
“Things will change during the season a lot, and I’ve the told the players. It’s a long season ahead. If you train really good and work really hard, if you improve and develop, everything is going to be good at the end.”
