Danny Ings will make his full return to football as he completes his recovery from injury on Friday night when he turns out for the Liverpool U23s.
The U23s kick off their new campaign at 7pm tonight when they play Swansea City and English striker Danny Ings will be a part of the squad.
Neil Critchley is having somewhat of an injury crisis currently, with the young squad missing Juanma, Harry Wilson and Bobby Adekanye through injury, while Brazilian midfielder Allan is still having issues with obtaining a work permit.
However, Ings’ return should serve as a major boost for both the player and Critchley as they seek to get their campaign off to a good start.
Klopp confirmed the news in his pre-Watford press conference on Friday morning:
“Danny looks really good in the sessions, but when he could be part 100 percent in pre-season there was no time to test him,” he explained.
“He’s ready to go, as fit as he can be, no problem with injury. He will play tonight with the U23s.”
Ings travelled with the squad over the summer and took part in most of the first-team’s training sessions but was not yet deemed fit to return to full in-game action and the ex-Burnley man has now been out for the better part of twelve months as he recovers from a second knee problem in as many campaigns.
Klopp has insisted that the 25-year old is “fit but not an option” for Watford as he continues to take a cautious approach with the player in order to give him the best chance of avoiding any further injuries.
