Liverpool have not agreed fee with Barcelona

Liverpool have not agreed a fee to sell Philippe Coutinho to Spanish giants FC Barcelona despite claims in the Spanish press. 

Breathe easy lads, Melissa Reddy has reported this morning that Liverpool are set to maintain their stance that Philippe Coutinho is not for sale and have not agreed a fee with European giants FC Barcelona.

There were reports emerging yesterday that a delegation from the Catalan club had arrived in Merseyside for talks as they attempt to finalise a move for the Brazilian but Reddy has rubbished such claims for Goal.com.

Reddy reveals that the club are adamant they do not need a “face-to-face sit down” with the Spanish giants who, contrary to reports over the last couple of days, have not sought to improve on their £72m offer that was tabled 20 days ago.

The Reds are confident that with Jürgen Klopp refusing to allow the player to leave, the club’s owners backing his stance and the lack of a buyout clause in the new five year contract he signed in January, that they hold all the cards.

The reports that Coutinho has failed to apply himself in training of late have also been exposed to be completely fabricated, with Sky Sports revealing the playmaker’s attitude and application have been nothing but exemplary.

It is believed that due to the fact the Brazilian has done nothing but reiterate his gratitude to Liverpool for affording him a chance on the big stage four years ago, there is “no expectation that he will agitate to leave.”

Barcelona had reportedly earmarked Coutinho as their heir to Andres Iniesta who, despite remaining one of the most gifted midfielders to ever play the game, has seen his powers wane in recent months. The Catalan club are also said to be targeting Ousmane Dembélé as a big-money replacement for the recently departed Neymar.
