It looked for all money that Alberto Moreno would be shipped off this summer but Liverpool FC may just be about to hand him a lifeline.
Has Alberto Moreno just saved his Liverpool career? Reports today suggest he might have done!
The Spaniard was reported as a target for Liverpool’s opening weekend opponents Watford yesterday by the Guardian’s Barry Glendenning who claims the Hornets are “eyeing up” a deal to strengthen their erratic back line.
However, reports today from ESPN, among others, suggest that while most Liverpool fans would’ve earmarked the Spanish full back as the “first player shown the door” at the back end of last season, the club themselves have seemingly performed a major U-turn over his future.
ESPN claim that while Andrew Robertson has signed from Hull to provide competition for the role, the former Hull City man has not yet adjusted to Liverpool’s style of play and is still bedding in at the club.
They believe that while Moreno is “defensively suspect and prone to poor decision making,” he could “still be useful” in cup games and when Klopp believes his first team stars are in need of a rest.
Former club Sevilla are also said to be interested in a reunion with the player – as per Diario de Sevilla – but Liverpool are said to be “not so willing” to allow the Spaniard to exit the club after a series of strong performances in their pre-season fixtures.
Moreno is said to have “changed the mind” of Jürgen Klopp making the “operation (of a transfer or loan deal) more difficult” for Sevilla.
Looks like Klopp’s talk of Moreno being like a new signing really wasn’t a joke. Let’s just hope the other part about James Milner being a brand new midfield ‘signing’ was.
