Liverpool Football Club have been linked with a move for Ajax playmaker Hakim Ziyech in fresh reports surfacing on Sunday.
Well, well, well – finally a new face appears!
Liverpool’s transfer business had been at a worrying stand still for what seemed like an eternity in recent days but it looks as if FSG and Jürgen Klopp may have both just realised that we’re less than a week away from the start of our Premier League campaign.
The Reds have only so far added one concrete first-team altering addition this summer in former Roma winger Mohamed Salah with pursuits of Virgil van Dijk and Naby Keïta ultimately proving fruitless.
Now, however, Liverpool seem to have changed course completely, turning their attentions to the Eredivisie in search of fresh attacking talent – perhaps spurred by the recent injury to Adam Lallana.
Who is it they’re after? Hakim Ziyech of Ajax.
The 24-year-old playmaker was a revelation for the Dutch side last season, scoring 12 goals and assisting a further 20 while proving himself to be equally deadly from both set pieces and open play.
Moroccan outlet Les Lions De L’Atlas claim that the Dutch born attacker – who has Moroccan heritage – is a target for Klopp’s Reds, with other similar reports believing that the German has even sent advisors to go and sound out the possibility of a move.
Worryingly, however, the attacker is being earmarked as a replacement for Philippe Coutinho, not the injured Adam Lallana which raises questions over both the authenticity of the reports and the nature of FSG’s dealings with FC Barcelona.
The transfer is so far taking a similar direction to those we’ve already seen pass through Liverpool media this summer, with Egyptian media often beating English outlets to the punch when it came to news on Salah, while the English media were often just as behind the Guinean press when it came to news on Naby Keïta.
It’ll be interesting to see how this one progresses, if at all.
