In a huge blow for the Reds, Liverpool midfielder Adam Lallana has been ruled out for a “significant period” of at least two months.
What is it with Liverpool Football Club and injuries to key players?
Is this just bad karma for Klopp not making enough first-team signings and supposedly being happy to play the patience game? Who knows…
Anyways, Adam Lallana is the latest to be ruled out for a significant period of time after the midfielder suffered a thigh injury against Atletico Madrid during Liverpool’s Audi Cup participation on Wednesday.
Rumours were flying around Twitter on Friday afternoon that the midfielder would be out for an extended period of time, with some even claiming four months was the likely duration of the midfielder’s impending layoff.
However, Liverpool manager Jürgen Klopp has confirmed that the English international will be missing for August and September but hopefully no longer than that.
“This is certainly not news we would have wanted,” said Klopp.
“Unfortunately, the damage is such that it will likely mean Adam is out for a couple of months not weeks, so I think we can pretty much rule him out of August and September.
“Beyond that we will monitor and wait and see. He is a boy with a world-class attitude to everything professionally and he has always come back in good time from injury setbacks since I have been here, so we will see.”
Lallana was pivotal to Klopp’s system’s effectiveness last season, scoring eight Premier League goals and assisting a further seven in what was a superb campaign individually.
With Kevin Stewart and Lucas Leiva having left the club already, the Reds are looking thin in the midfield areas of the pitch as only Jordan Henderson, Emre Can, Philippe Coutinho and Gini Wijnaldum remain as truly viable long-term options.
Looks as if it’s time for Liverpool to get a real move on in the transfer market.
