Defender Joe Gomez will miss the Reds’ Audi Cup matches against Bayern Munich and one of Atletico Madrid/Napoli after sustaining a minor knee injury.
Liverpool defender Joe Gomez will miss the Reds’ pre-season Audi Cup fixtures this coming week as a pre-caution after sustaining a knee injury in training.
The Englishman has featured heavily in Klopp’s back four during the club’s previous five pre-season fixtures, playing 90 minutes on Saturday against Hertha Berlin as both a right-back and centre-back but will not take part in the upcoming matches against Bayern Munich and one of Atletico Madrid/Napoli.
The ECHO report that Klopp confirmed as much earlier today, telling the club’s official website: “He (Gomez) will be missing from the next few games. It is nothing too serious, a little issue with his knee picked up in the game.”
With Gomez’s fresh injury issues, Nathaniel Clyne having only featured for 45 minutes during the Reds’ pre-season fixtures so far and Jon Flanagan seemingly out of favour with the manager, Trent Alexander-Arnold’s chances of starting the season at right-back only seem to be getting stronger by the day.
Klopp also revealed that Origi will play no part in the upcoming pair of fixtures either as the Belgian is being rested as a precaution after sustaining a “slight muscle injury.”
“Divock won’t be available for the two Audi Cup games. He has picked up a very slight muscle injury. We are being cautious with this but it makes sense. He will be monitored over the next few days but we are not overly concerned.”
While it’s nice to see Klopp taking no unnecessary risks this summer, it is equally frustrating that the Premier League season hasn’t even begun yet the club is already being hampered by injury issues.
