Luis Garcia has given his thoughts on the ‘special club’ that is Liverpool FC, Philippe Coutinho and new record-signing Mohamed Salah.

Former Liverpool player Luis Garcia is confident that despite rumours linking him to FC Barcelona and Paris Saint-Germain, Philippe Coutinho will not be leaving Merseyside this summer.

Other than a winter period blighted by injury, Coutinho was on fire during much of last season, scoring 14 goals and firing the Reds to their top four spot with some scintillating performances at both ends of the campaign. Garcia believes that the Brazilian’s role in helping the Reds qualify for the Champions League playoffs will be key in him staying put.

“I’ve said it many, many times, he’s very happy,” Garcia said.

“If you leave, you will be a player. If you stay, you will have a statue. It says everything. He loves the club, he’s happy, his family is happy and we’ll see him for a few more years.”

“He is one of the key players. We have Champions League back at Anfield and that was probably the main thing they wanted at the beginning of last season.

“Right now, they must keep all of the important players. Him, Origi, Sturridge, Firmino – all those players who did amazing work last year. It’s very important to keep them because that’s how you keep the base of the team, and then you are the right players.

“It’s not all about spending money and buying players, it’s about buying the right ones.”

Speaking of buying the right ones, Garcia believes that Klopp has made a very good decision bringing Mohamed Salah to Liverpool and that the £37m man will be a smash hit on Merseyside this season.

“I think he’s a very talented player, he knows the Premier League,” Garcia explained.

“With the love of the supporters and the club, he already knows how to deal with the players, I think he can give 100% to the team and it’s a fantastic addition.

“The Premier League is a very tough competition and if you arrive and don’t settle well into the league or the city, it’s not easy to perform.

“That’s why Liverpool is a very special club, it’s kind of a family, when he feels the love of the crowd and the club, he will give everything and the Premier League will see a fantastic player.”
