Rumour: Liverpool hold 'secret talks' with Italian club over potential deals

According to reports in Italy, Liverpool are said have held ‘secret talks’ with Lazio over the potential signing of Dutch centre back Stefan De Vrij.

According to Italian newspaper, Il Messagero, Liverpool have been holding “secret talks” with Serie A club Lazio over the possibility of signing their Dutch centre half Stefan De Vrij.

The Reds were linked previously with De Vrij last month and it seems the interest has not yet faded with the club continuing to struggle in their effort to prise first choice target Virgil van Dijk away from Southampton’s icy grip.

The 25-year-old was also linked to Manchester United back in May before they opted to finalise the signing of Victor Lindelöf from Benfica and has been labelled with a £25m price tag.

The Italian publication also claims that the two clubs have discussed the possibility of Reds midfielder/defender Lucas Leiva moving the other way on loan – a rumour echoed by Gianluca Di Marzio – with Lazio resigned to losing current holding midfielder Lucas Biglia to AC Milan this window.

Lucas has been linked with numerous clubs this summer as he supposedly seeks an exit for guaranteed first-team football with a return to former club Gremio and a possible move to Rafa Benitez’s Newcastle amongst the most popular rumours.

The Italian club are said to want the veteran Brazilian, who has made over 300 appearances for the Reds in his ten years on Merseyside, on a one-year loan deal with the option to buy next summer.
