Paris Saint Germain have made Liverpool’s Philippe Coutinho their number one transfer targets after being snubbed by Monaco’s Kylian Mbappé.
Philippe Coutinho is reportedly set to be the subject of renewed interest from French giants Paris Saint-Germain as the Ligue 1 side failed in their attempts to sign Monaco wonder kid Kylian Mbappé.
French publication Le10Sport claim that the Parisian club made a “massive play” to sign the French striker and held talks with the teenager and his father but couldn’t sway his desire to remain with Monaco for another season.
Coutinho has already been the reported subject of tentative interest from the French club and now it looks as if they are set to step up their pursuit by offering an initial £70m sum for the Brazilian playmaker.
The Reds are said to be keen to hold onto the no.10 this summer but Le10Sport believe the club would enter negotiations for that price in an attempt to drive any interested parties closer to their £87m valuation.
PSG are said to be “optimistic that a compromise could be reached” as they seek to bolster their squad ahead of a crunch season for manager Unai Emery who largely underwhelmed in his first campaign in charge.
The French side surrendered the Ligue 1 title to AS Monaco’s exciting young squad and were incredibly knocked out of the Champions League by Barcelona, despite winning the first leg 4-0.
The Metro believe that if a move were to go through, then it could have a ripple effect for both sides.
Liverpool would pocket a huge sum of money, allowing them to test the resolve of RB Leipzig over key target Naby Keïta, while the French giants would be seemingly more welcoming to the thought of letting Marco Verrati join Catalan giants FC Barcelona.
Of course, even if the Reds have set a price tag on Philippe Coutinho, it’s highly unlikely that the Brazilian will be allowed to leave Merseyside this summer.
The playmaker contributed to 23 goals for Jürgen Klopp’s Liverpool last season and has made the step up to being a truly world-class talent and one that Klopp will be desperate to build his side around.
What do you think, would Liverpool be open to selling Coutinho this summer for the right price? Personally, I don’t think he’s going anywhere.
