Liverpool Football Club’s initial pre-season squad that will reconvene at Melwood for fitness tests on July 5th has been confirmed by the club. 

Liverpool’s pre-season begins today. July 5th.

The first wave of Reds players – those who were not involved in international duty over the summer break – will reconvene at Melwood for their initial fitness tests before getting underway with tactical sessions and ball work in the coming days.

The Reds initial 22 man first-team squad for pre-season looks like this:

Goalkeepers: Loris Karius, Adam Bogdan and Kamil Grabara

Centre backs: Jöel Matip, Joe Gomez and surprisingly, Mamadou Sakho

Fullbacks: Nathaniel Clyne, James Milner, Alberto Moreno, Trent Alexander-Arnold, Jon Flanagan and Connor Randall.

Midfielders: Lucas Leiva, Kevin Stewart, Pedro Chirivella will all feature while Liverpool captain Jordan Henderson returns from injury

Wingers: Lazar Markovic and Ryan Kent will get a chance to train with the first-team while Sadio Mané is expected on his return a knee problem

Strikers: Roberto Firmino, Daniel Sturridge and Danny Ings are all available.

Notable absentees until a later date due to international commitments over the summer: Philippe Coutinho, Mohamed Salah, Simon Mignolet, Adam Lallana, Emre Can, Dominic Solanke, Dejan Lovren, Divock Origi, Gini Wijnaldum, Ragnar Klavan.

It is unlikely that the Reds will be put through anything too taxing during their first two or three sessions, with Wednesday in particular likely to serve as just a day for fitness tests and ensuring there are no new injuries.

The rest of the squad will reconvene sporadically across the month, with Emre Can expected to be last to return due to his involvement in Germany’s Confederations Cup win.

The Reds’ domestic pre-season friendlies begin on July 12th with a trip to Prenton Park to take on Tranmere Rovers. They follow this with another friendly two days later against Wigan before tours of Hong Kong, Germany and a pit stop in Dublin.
