Jürgen Klopp has a predicament on his hands and it’s one that has plagued Liverpool managers far too frequently of late, who starts between the sticks?

I think it’s fair to say that ever since we sold Pepe Reina, Liverpool’s goalkeeping department has been fairly suspect – to say the least.

Despite Mignolet coming off the back of his best season as a Liverpool player, its easy to forget that in the campaigns prior he was, well.. not very good, to put it lightly. Not to mention the second keeper we bought since Reina – Adam Bogdan – made Mignolet look like a prime Oliver Kahn on steroids.

Add to that our most recent addition between the sticks, the beautiful Loris Karius, having a less than stellar debut season for us its safe to say we’ve had a tough time with our shot stoppers.

Before the season starts, this means we have an interesting predicament to ponder over the summer. Who’s going to be our number one keeper for the upcoming season?

We have three goalkeepers now that that could easily be guaranteed starters at other clubs of a high level, with Danny Ward our third goalkeeper having just had an incredible season with Huddersfield Town and being one of the stand out players in their road to promotion into the Premier League. In fact, he was the big hero in the play-offs, making multiple incredible penalty saves in a shootout against Sheffield Wednesday.

And then you have Karius.

Karius, by all means, is definitely not a bad player, despite what we saw last year. In fact I’m a hundred percent sure that he’s a great player, he just struggled to show his true colours last season. His time in Germany proved he was a top talent, in fact, he was even voted one of the best goalkeepers in the Bundesliga in 2015/16! He definitely needs another chance as number one.

Then of course, you have everyone’s favourite Belgian goalkeeper that isn’t Courtois; big Simon Mignolet.

Mignolet is a hard one to critique, mainly due to the fact that it’s ingrained into everyone’s mind that he’s bad when, in fact, he can be pretty good. Simon last season was definitely a vastly underrated member of the team, making truly spectacular saves to keep us in the race for top four. However, he did find time to make some classic Mignolet mistakes but I’m willing to overlook them due to the fact he earned himself a bit of slack.

So, who’s it gonna be?

All in all they are all pretty good goalies, but all can’t play all the time.

In all honesty, it’s fairly unlikely that Danny Ward will be a regular starter at all next season.

So it’s probably going to be between Migs and Karius. Both have a good chance of being regular starters but would it be fair to demote Mignolet after his great season?

On the other hand, a top talent like Karius needs to get game time, doesn’t he?

It seems we have a true predicament on our hands.
