Rafa Benitez is hoping to raid his old club’s youth ranks by taking Sheyi Ojo off their hands with a loan deal for the 2017/18 season.
According to the Independent, Newcastle are hoping to snare the loan signing of Liverpool’s Sheyi Ojo this summer.
The Magpies are said to be looking to strengthen in all areas ahead of their return to the top flight and Benitez is hoping the 20-year old can help add more width and pace to his squad.
Jürgen Klopp is said to be happy to allow Ojo to leave on a temporary basis in order to gain more first-team experience after he spent the majority of the 2016/17 season injured or playing at under-23 level.
Burnley and Middlesbrough are also said to be interested in acquiring his services but the Independent understands that the winger would rather a move to St James’ Park next season.
The young winger is evidently an exciting talent and impressed towards the tail end of the 2015/16 season where he made the most of Klopp’s rotation, assisting three Premier League goals for his teammates and scoring his first goal for the club in an FA Cup match against Exeter at Anfield.
Alongside new signing Dominic Solanke, formerly of Chelsea, Ojo was a part of the England side that won the recent Under-20s World Cup in Korea where he enjoyed a stellar outing in the semi-final against Italy, assisting two goals from crosses.
What do you think? Should Sheyi Ojo remain at Liverpool this season, or would he benefit from first team football out on loan?
