Former-Liverpool player John Aldridge has urged Reds manager Jürgen Klopp to get his summer transfer deals sealed as early as possible.
The Reds finished fourth last season, sealing their involvement in the Champions League for at very least the final play-off round in August.
Upon finishing the season, Jürgen Klopp spoke of positive transfer developments already taking place, giving the impression that a number of deals had been started as early as May.
He also told the club’s official website at the time: “I’m really optimistic for our future, not because I’m crazy but only because I know what we have. I know what we will get, I know what we can get, and I know that we really have a super bunch of people – knowledge, character – not just the players, all around.”
The German gave the impression that a number of high-quality signings would be joining the club this window and former-Reds striker John Aldridge has said that’s exactly what he wants to see.
“I want to see some proven players arriving at the club and some money being spent,” he reportedly told The Independent.
“The Champions League play-off games are not far away now and Liverpool need to get their transfer deals done quickly this summer because there can be no excuses if they are not ready for the start of the season.”
Aldridge makes a very good point and it’s one Klopp evidently agrees upon. Mohamed Salah – the Reds first high-profile signing of the summer – is all but completed pending a medical, while youngster Dominic Solanke was announced to be joining the club back in the early weeks of June.
If they hadn’t blundered spectacularly it is also likely the club would’ve also been deep into negotiations with Southampton by this point over Virgil van Dijk but as a result have had to settle for seeing alternative bids for Stefan De Vrij and Kalidou Koulibaly rejected.
