Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain is set to tell Arsenal he wants to leave the club this summer after receiving no formal offer from the Gunners.
Liverpool target Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain’s Arsenal future has become shrouded in a massive cloud of doubt recently after the Telegraph reported that no formal contract offer has been made to the player.
The Telegraph report that Wenger has talked “frequently about the important need to keep Oxlade-Chamberlain,” but that the £100,000 a week deal that was expected to be agreed after the end of the season has not surfaced.
Chamberlain is about to enter the final year of his current deal with the Gunners and is said to be “increasingly uncertain,” over his next step.
Chamberlain’s versatility is said to be what has caught Klopp’s attention and the Englishman turned out as a right winger, central midfielder and even a wing back during the 2016/17 season.
Klopp is also reported to be on the lookout for another option to play out wide, even with the signing of AS Roma winger Mohamed Salah now rumoured to be all but wrapped up pending a medical.
However, the player himself is hoping to be given more opportunities in the centre of the park – something that cannot be promised in London due to the presence of Cazorla, Ramsey, Coquelin, Xhaka, Ozil and the potential return of Jack Wilshere.
If the Reds are to move for Chamberlain, a deal would likely be pushed through quickly with Johnathan Northcroft of the Sunday Times claiming that the player wants a new club before the start of the summer pre-season. Arsenal are said to have placed a £25m price tag on his head.
Let us know in the comments, would you be happy to see Oxlade-Chamberlain join Liverpool? Or should the Reds be looking elsewhere for reinforcements?
