Liverpool Football Club have reportedly stepped up their interest in 22-year-old Serbian playmaker Sergej Milinkovic-Savic of Lazio.
Finally! Some Liverpool transfer news that doesn’t revolve around Mohamed Salah or Virgil Van Dijk!
According to the Sport Review, Jürgen Klopp is interested in bringing 22-year-old Serbian midfielder ‘Sergej Milinkovic-Savic’ of Lazio to Merseyside. They claim that Liverpool have been following the midfielder’s progress for months now and could be ready to step up their interest by launching a €28m – roughly £24.6m – bid for his services.
Lazio are said to be reluctant to sell, due to the midfielder being a key player in their starting XI despite his age but the Reds are hopeful that the money will talk. Liverpool are said to be ready to offer him a £59,000 a week wage package if he commits to joining the club.
Milinkovic-Savic scored 4 goals in 34 appearances across the Serie A last term, assisting 7 and creating a further 40 chances for teammates. He also impressed in the Coppa Italia this season, scoring an impressive 3 goals in 5 appearances to take Lazio through to the final.
The Serbian mostly operates as a box to box midfielder but is also capable of fulfilling a deeper, more defensive role if necessary. It is considered that he could be an alternative to RB Leipzig’s Naby Keita who it seems is going nowhere this summer.
It looks as if the Serie A is fast becoming Jürgen Klopp’s favourite hunting ground this summer, Keita Baldé Diao, Stefan De Vrij, Napoli’s Kalidou Koulibaly and of course, Mohamed Salah, all being linked with moves to the Reds in recent weeks.
Let’s hope the club can step up their pursuit of at least one of their targets in coming weeks and start getting some deals across the line.
