RB Leipzig have warned Liverpool FC to forget about signing their priority midfield target Naby Keita in this summer’s transfer window.
This news surely comes as a huge blow for Jürgen Klopp, who has pinpointed the Guinean midfielder as a key player in his summer recruitment. The Reds have been linked with a move for the player since as early as last month and it is widely believed that he is the club’s number one midfield target.
The German outfit have revealed, however, through Director of Football Ralf Rangnick, that the club want to keep their core group of players together ahead of their inaugural Champions League campaign next season.
“We are not thinking about selling our best players this summer,” Rangnick told Bild. “There’s no red line for us. We will keep our team and improve it in several positions.”
Whether Leipzig will be able to do so , however, is another matter entirely. Keita is not the only player highly sought after with Swedish midfielder Emil Forsberg attracting interest from a number of clubs while German forward Timo Werner is also being labelled as hot property.
