Silly Season is here and Jack Hallows has your fix of all the latest news and transfer rumours from the last couple of days.

Silly season is here! The time when everyone and their mum becomes an “in the know” journalist desperate for retweets, recognition or in some cases, a simple chance to mess with opposition fans.

Thankfully, however, real journalists and news outlets do exist and while it’s a general rule of thumb to take anything you hear with a pinch of salt, these are the current updates we’ve compiled that might be worth following!

Liverpool do not want Gael Clichy

Enough. Enough of this rubbish.

As per the Liverpool ECHO, Jürgen Klopp does not want to sign the 31-year-old on a free transfer.

There were reports circulating yesterday that the French full-back would be on his way to Liverpool this summer on a two-year contract. However, those reports were started by a certain outlet who shall not be named which as you all know as well as I do, means it’s a load of rubbish.

James Pearce confirms Mohamed Salah interest

As you may have seen already, one of our writers Mike Mongie was lucky enough to conduct an interview with James Pearce of the Liverpool ECHO and the ‘full-time Liverpool correspondent both home and away,’ confirmed interest in Roma’s pacy winger Mohamed Salah.

Pearce confirms that interest in the winger dates back “beyond Klopp’s reign,” with his predecessor Brendan Rodgers also having been interested in bringing the speedster to Liverpool back when he was with Basel.

This confirmation comes alongside a cryptic photo posted to agent Ramy Abbas’ Instagram story which shows a plane ticket to London. Coupling this with Abbas following Liverpool’s official Instagram account, fans have deduced that while the actual reason for his flight was not disclosed that he may be on his way to Liverpool to finalise a deal.

Peak silly season that.

All conspiracy theories aside, the Egyptian has been on fire in the Serie A over recent seasons, scoring 29 league goals in his last two years at Roma. If Klopp and the powers that be can agree a deal with Roma and bring Salah to Merseyside he would represent a huge coup for the club.

Virgil Van Dijk definitely going… but where?

One thing is clear… the Dutchman is definitely leaving Southampton this summer. The question, however, is to where?

John Cross of the Mirror reported on Tuesday that despite Chelsea believing they were in the driver seat, the Reds were confident of landing the defender due to his “interest in playing under Klopp.”

However, Paul Joyce of the Times believes that it is not Chelsea or Liverpool but Manchester City who currently sit in pole position for the centre back’s signature. Joyce believes City will continue their aggressive approach to this summer’s transfer window by offering Southampton in excess of £50 million and hand Van Dijk a five-year contract worth £180,000 a week, nearly four times his current salary.

Then, just when you thought it couldn’t get any more complicated, Tom Olver of the Metro has reversed all of this and claims it is Chelsea who are favourites for his signature. It’s Olver’s belief that the reigning champions are prepared to offer Van Dijk £170,000 a week and that this is £50,000 more than Liverpool are offering.

So, where will he go? Your guess is honestly as good as mine.

Alexandre Lacazette to Atletico Madrid no longer happening?

Ian Holyman of ESPNFC has given a large percentage of our fanbase some hope that the Reds could end up signing Alexandre Lacazette by claiming the Frenchman is “at a crossroads,” amid links to Atletico Madrid.

It was previously thought that a transfer deal to take the striker to Madrid was all but agreed, however, Lacazette himself has reportedly stated that he does not know where he will be next season. Holyman reports that the striker told FootMercato, There’s nothing signed, nothing official. Yes, I can leave, it doesn’t mean I’ll leave. I’m not ruling out any option. I’m good in Lyon, but I could go elsewhere.

Naturally, this has worked Liverpool Twitter into a frenzy with fans desperate for Klopp to make a move for the £60m rated forward. Whether the Reds are even interested, however, we will just have to wait and see.

All quiet on the Keita front

Finally, we’ll round off this round up with Naby Keita.

The RB Leipzig midfielder is a well-known transfer target of Jürgen Klopp’s this coming summer but it looks as if we will have to be patient to find out if a deal will actually materialise. Despite every football publication under the sun linking the Guinean with a £50 million move to Merseyside this summer, the man himself has sought to play down any and all transfer rumours involving his future.

This Is Anfield reports that Keita told Bundesliga.com, “I really don’t worry about such things. My only focus is on our games and my performances; they are the most important things..

The fact that we managed to qualify directly for the group stage of the Champions League is fantastic for our club. Our team is young, hungry and very ambitious.”

Let’s hope he’s just being diplomatic.
