In an exclusive interview with Rousing the Kop, James Pearce confirmed that Liverpool are interested in signing Roma’s Mohamed Salah this summer.
Last season, Sadio Mané was the primary source of pace for Jürgen Klopp’s side and the German manager is looking to bolster his reserves this summer.
Liverpool are looking at signing Mohamed Salah. In an exclusive interview with James Pearce, the Echo reporter revealed that the Reds will target the Egyptian winger to add to their wide options.
Pearce told Rousing the Kop, “Salah is a target and Liverpool’s interest in him goes back beyond Klopp’s reign. Rodgers wanted to sign him from Basel in January 2014 but Chelsea came in with a higher offer and took him to Stamford Bridge instead.
“He’s had a fine season for Roma and Klopp is desperate to add another winger, knowing that Liverpool just weren’t the same side when they were without Mané last term.“
In 31 Serie A games for Roma, Salah scored 15 goals and assisted 11. In comparison, that’s four more goals and four more assists than Juventus’ Paulo Dybala and two goals and six assists more than Sadio Mané. While the latter may have played four fewer games and in the Premier League no less, Salah’s record is impressive.
Liverpool will, pending a play-off in August, take part in next season’s Champions League and Mohamed Salah is certainly a player that would help the Reds in their aim to challenge domestically and in Europe next season.
Signing a player like Salah would require significant financial pull but with Klopp said to have Fenway Sports Group’s backing this summer, that shouldn’t be an issue.
On top of James Pearce revealing Liverpool’s interest, BeIN Sports presenter Ahmed Fouad has tweeted that “Salah is close to Liverpool.“
