Interesting quotes have emerged out of the Olympique Lyon camp regarding long-time Liverpool target, Alexandre Lacazette.
Lyon Chairman Jean-Michel Aulas has admitted that Lacazette could potentially leave the club this summer stating that “If the club of Alex’s heart is capable of matching our demands, like Barcelona with Samuel Umtiti last year, then things will go well.” Interesting.
There would, without a doubt, be a whole host of clubs waiting to sign the French striker. With 35 goals across all competitions, Lacazette is one of Europe’s most sought-after strikers.
Having been at Lyon since the ripe age of 12, the 25-year-old stated just a few months ago that he is ready to leave his boyhood club. Lacazette said, “This summer [he] might go for a breath of fresh air and try something different, always with the idea of progressing in football and as a person. [He is] going to keep working, with the hope that good opportunities come for [him] this summer.”
I am sure that a large array of clubs will without a doubt look to sign the Lyon native but Lacazette has specific criteria that his next club must meet.
The team that the Frenchmen will join “will have to be in the Champions League and play good football – passing the ball, not just hitting it from box to box. Not kick and rush. That would not work for [him].”
I do not know about you, but that sounds like Liverpool to me.
Liverpool have reportedly been long time admirers of Lacazette. Apparently, we have been monitoring him for up to three years now. We definitely play some very entertaining football so if we make the Champions League then we should hopefully have a fair chance of signing him.
Lacazette is obviously an elite footballer so I think it comes as no surprise to anyone that he is ready to move on from his boyhood club. No offence to Lyon, but at 25, it sounds like the Frenchman is ready to take his career to another level.
I am sure that he would have no problem slotting into any of the world’s best starting lineups – he is just that good. He could also probably handle the pressure of being at a big club, having been Lyon’s main man pretty much since his debut back in 2009.
With 123 goals in 270 games, Lacazette would be that 20+ goals per season striker, that all Liverpool fans seem to desire. A front line of Coutinho, Lacazette, and Mané would actually terrify me.
He would obviously be an immense signing. Rumoured to only have a price tag of about £35 million, we could obviously afford him. As long as we qualify for the Champions League we would have met all of his criteria, it was just come down to how much pull we have.
A few months ago it was reported that Lacazette would be making his way over to Spain to link up with Atletico Madrid. This rumour was a bit fuzzy. Some speculated that he would replace Antoine Griezmann as he is also rumoured to be leaving the Spanish capital this summer.
Others speculate that Griezmann has recruited his fellow countryman to join him at Atleti. In all honesty, nobody seems to have a clue.
Either way, these are promising quotes from Mr Aulas. I think that as long as we qualify for the Champions League we may as well throw in a cheeky bid for him.
It will be interesting to see where he ends up this summer as he is an elite talent and looks almost certain to leave Lyon come the transfer window.
