Guillem Balagué has reported that Barcelona is not interested in Philippe Coutinho as he’s not what the Catalans are looking for.
Interesting – and positive – news from reliable Spanish football journalist, pundit and author Guillem Balagué today as he claims Philippe Coutinho is not the type of player Barcelona want to pursue this summer.
Writing for his weekly column on the Sky Sports website, Balagué – who has spoken on the matter previously – revealed why the Catalan club is hesitant to consider a bid for Liverpool’s star man.
Balagué believes that Barcelona sees the Brazilian primarily as a forward and that the Catalans are looking to spend their money elsewhere on someone who can fill the holes in their midfield instead.
Their illustrious collection of attacking firepower has again been on form this season but the likes of Andres Iniesta, Ivan Rakitic and Andre Gomes have all struggled for form in the middle of the park, meaning that the European giants would seemingly rather strengthen in that area than pay what would have to be a mammoth price tag to bring another attacker through the front door.
Guillem Balagué’s full comments on Philippe Coutinho, “His entourage is clearly working to move him to the Nou Camp. There are different reasons why Barca will not go for him.
“One is the cost and the other is they think he’s a forward rather than a midfielder and of course they are completely sorted in attack. They are looking for a different type of midfielder. Nobody doubts Coutinho’s quality but Barcelona don’t have the money to be getting three or four top players for their first-choice line-up.”
This will come as a relief to everyone associated with Liverpool Football Club. Jürgen Klopp will now be able to plan his summer transfers with the knowledge that his star player isn’t heading out the door.
