Jürgen Klopp is set to ignore local rivalry and make a move for former Manchester United defender who is in sizzling form this season.
The Reds are currently in fourth place in the Premier League, five points ahead of Manchester United in fifth with the battle for Champions League qualification really intensifying.
With no other competition keeping them busy, Liverpool, who have finished all their games against top six opponents have a decent chance of qualifying for the Champions League next season but they need some quality additions come the end of the season to help compete with the best.
A few positions in the squad need to be addressed and according to reports from the Daily Mail, Jürgen Klopp wants Burnely defender Michael Keane as a solution to the defensive problems at Anfield.
Liverpool are currently the top goalscorers in the league but their defence has cost them a chance to compete with Chelsea for the title.
And Klopp is now adamant to add some mettle to his back-line and has identified the former Manchester United man as a perfect option for his side next season.
Keane is a product of the academy United but he was sold after making just one senior appearance for the Red Devils.
However, he has grown into one of the best and most consistent defenders in the league under Sean Dyche and has made more than 100 appearances for the Clarets since joining them back in 2015.
The likes of Chelsea and Manchester United are also interested but cross-town rivals Everton are currently leading the race for his signature.
If Liverpool manage to get their man this summer, it will be the first time in more than a decade that a player from Manchester will wear a Liverpool shirt.
Do you think Michael Keane is the answer for Liverpool?
