Manchester United legend Sir Alex Ferguson gives Liverpool and Jürgen Klopp more reason to spend on German sensation Julian Brandt this summer.

The Anfield outfit are currently within reach of a place in the Champions League next season and they will need some quality additions to certain positions of their squad to compete with the best in the Europe next season.

This has seen the manager scout for a number of top class names but one names that has been doing the rounds extensively in the last few months is Bayer Leverkusen midfielder, Julian Brandt.

Linked with a move to Anfield in the January transfer window, the 20-year old Germany international is one of the finest youngsters on display in Europe at the moment.

With three goals and seven assists in all competitions this season, Brandt has been in decent form this season for the German outfit and the favourite of one Alex Ferguson.

That is according to the editor of Germany’s Kicker Magazine, Jorg Jakob.

Speaking on the Liverpool Echo’s Anfield Extra podcast, Jakob revealed that Liverpool’s prime summer transfer target impressed the Manchester United man late last year in an appearance in the Champions League.

“First of all I’d like to mention the name of Alex Ferguson, who I talked to in November after he’d seen Brandt in the Champions League,” said Jakob.

“He was very impressed. And he was right because Brandt is one of the best and finest talents we have in German football,” he added.

He was honest and admitted that he did not know if the move would happen but felt that it made a lot of sense for all involved.

“The move makes complete sense. To be honest, I don’t know if it will happen, but it makes sense.”

“Leverkusen have a new manager and they definitely won’t qualify for Europe. This might be a reason for Brandt and his agent to say ‘let’s go to a Champions League club like Liverpool [providing we qualify],” he added.

He also went on to reveal the ambitions of the 20-year old and said, “If he trusts in Jürgen Klopp a move could happen and maybe in some years it’ll be Real Madrid.”

Alex Ferguson’s favourite? Klopp, are you listening?
