The next few weeks will decide if Liverpool can land their midfield transfer target Mahmoud Dahoud this summer.

Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool are the most productive team in front of goal in the top flight in England this season but they are nowhere close to landing the Premier League trophy. They are currently in fourth place on the league table, 11 points behind Chelsea at the top, having played a game more. They have little chance of catching up in Antonio Conte’s side before the end of the season.

They have also crashed out of both domestic cup competitions and a finish in the top four is the only real achievement that Liverpool will fight for till the end of the season. Qualification for the Champions League next season will also have a huge effect on the club’s plans in the transfer window at the end of the season.

The German tactician at the helm of Anfield has already been looking for some top class players to add to his squad in the summer and German midfield starlet Mahmoud Dahoud is one of the many names that is doing the rounds around the club for almost a year now.

The 21-year-old Borussia Monchengladbach star is currently one of the most exciting midfielders in the world of football and is attracting interests from some of the biggest clubs in Europe for a move in the summer.

The German outfit, who lost Granit Xhaka to Arsenal last summer, were not ready to let Dahoud leave, even as Liverpool (and a few other clubs) were ready to make a bid of close to £30 million at the start of the current season.

Monchengladbach qualified for the Champions League this season and they wanted Dahoud to help them at the highest stage in the sport. However, currently lying in ninth place in the Bundesliga, the Borussia Park outfit have little chance of getting into the elite competition and might let the player leave come the end of the season.

And according to The Guardian’s Ed Aarons, the 21-year-old could decide on his future in the next couple of weeks. It is hard to see his current club keep hold of him for another year but with Dahoud looking for a place in the German national side, staying in the Bundesliga could be his best option.

Klopp’s former club Borussia Dortmund are currently the front runners for his signature but the German manager at Anfield is now determined to land him in the summer. The Reds are yet to agree on a new deal with 23-year-old Emre Can, who is linked with an exit in the summer and Dahoud could be a like for like replacement for his national counterpart at Anfield.

With five assists and a goal from a deep-lying midfield role, Dahoud could be the perfect fit for Klopp’s system at Liverpool but do you think he will choose the Red of Merseyside this summer?
