Sardar Azmoun
Prior to speculation over a possible transfer to Liverpool last month, Sardar Azmoun was not a name familiar to many Reds fans. The Iranian is currently playing in the Russian Premier League with FC Rostov, although, according to reports, Liverpool have sent scouts to the club to watch the attacker, who has caught the eye of a number of teams with a series of impressive displays this season, including goals against Bayern Munich and Atletico Madrid in the Champions league.
Azmoun plays primarily just behind the striker, in the ‘number 10’ role. As a small, tricky player, he encompasses many of the same qualities as Phillipe Coutinho, granted, a slightly less accomplished version of the Brazilian playmaker. Nevertheless, the 21-year-old does have a keen eye for goal, as was demonstrated when he slotted home an equaliser in Rostov’s shock win over Bayern Munich last month.
Despite his obvious talent, however, Azmoun would be unlikely to go straight into the team due to his lack of experience in Europe’s big leagues, and at only 21, he is not likely to be able to compete in the Premier League with his poor physicality. Instead, Klopp would likely look to develop and enhance the player, as he has been known to do so successfully in the past with other young talents.
When asked about a potential move away from Rostov, the Iranian admitted that he would consider any approaches that came his way, mentioning that Liverpool were one of the clubs who were interested.
