Steven Gerrard is back at Melwood to receive treatment on a hamstring injury, but his presence ahead of Liverpool’s clash with Manchester United could be inspiring.

The man needs no introduction, he’s a living legend. Currently recovering from a hamstring injury, the Mirror reported that he was spotted at Melwood yesterday morning. Since he is almost certain to play no part in LA Galaxy’s game on Tuesday, perhaps he will stay to watch our clash with Man Utd at Anfield on Monday night.

Is Steven just paying a visit, or could he have something to offer ahead of the big game? A man with 34 appearances, 12 goals and 2 assists against Manchester United (I know, don’t tell me about the last one) surely can’t be a bad person to take advice from.

I’m sure that the players know how important this game is and how the fans feel about it, but could some wise words from the ex-captain be the extra push they need? With two important midfield players in Adam Lallana and Georginio Wijnaldum set to be out for the game, a little bit of motivation could do the trick – get them playing for the shirt.

There have even been recent rumours linking Gerrard with a short-term return to Liverpool. While he certainly wouldn’t start regularly, I think it’d be worth it for the sentimental value, if for nothing else – bring him on in the later stages of a game, watch him bang one in in front of the Kop, the memories will come flooding back.

I wouldn’t get too excited, though, it’s unlikely that he’ll ever return as a player (but I’m all for it if he does).

The international break is over and we are fast approaching the game against our bitter rivals. Let’s hope we can give Stevie something to smile about on Monday night.
