Reporters from all across the country had travelled to Melwood and were gathered in the media room to witness the arrival of the newly appointed Klopp.

The German wasted no time in living up to his charismatic nature and when quizzed on how he would describe himself, with Jose Mourinho’s famous ‘special one’ comment when he arrived at Chelsea in 2004, in mind, Klopp responded:

“I don’t want to describe myself,” he said, according to the Guardian.

“Does anyone in this room think I can do wonders? No. I am a normal guy. I come from the Black Forest. My mother is probably sat at home now watching this, not able to understand a word of what I am saying but very proud.

“I am the Normal One.”

It was an introduction that was well received by both reporters and fans and is, to this day, still regarded as Klopp’s first mark on English football.

One down, four to go.
