Danny Ings
As mentioned previously, another player which hasn’t featured in the first team as much as he would have liked is the English-striker, Danny Ings. He made a handful of appearances under former Liverpool manager, Brendan Rodgers; but he suffered an ACL injury which left him sidelined for a while.
Although, to everyone’s surprise, the 24-year-old has not even made the bench for any of Jürgen Klopp’s competitive squads yet, bar the trip to Burton Albion. With his high-intensity and pressing being a key part in his game, it would have made sense to include him within the match day squads. Out of all of Liverpool’s striking options, he is the one player who arguably fits the “gengenpressing” style of play best.
The German manager has insisted, on several occasions, that he is simply ensuring Ings’ fitness levels are high enough. Despite this, Ings had made several pre-season appearances along with having recovered from his ACL injury for awhile now. I am just left to wonder whether it’s all smoke and mirrors from Klopp. This is not to say I don’t trust the man however, because I have plenty of faith in him.
All in all, I would love to see Danny Ings back in more than one way – back on the pitch and back scoring goals.
