Alex Rogers explains why he thinks the 2016/17 season holds a lot of promise for Liverpool Football Club.
This season has a lot of promise for Liverpool. With a pretty solid transfer window so far and with the potential to add even more firepower to the team, there’s no reason that we can’t challenge for top four or even to win the league all together.
And before people say I’m delusional and expecting too much, I don’t think its too far fetched. Why? Well, even though this point has been stated by a billion different people, this is Klopp’s first full season in charge with a team of players that are his. This isn’t a mismatched team that he’s inherited anymore, this is a formidable, high octane team that knows how to play exactly the way Klopp wants them to play.
Also with a new injection of players all trying to prove to their new fans why they are worthy to play for Liverpool. With all the new players on the scene, most of which having a knack of getting their names on the score sheet, Liverpool’s attacking firepower has definitely increased. Expect goals this season.
Also, another point that’s been mentioned a lot, the lack of European football this season could be a blessing in disguise for our league and cup performances. Yes, it does suck that, again, we’re not in Europe, but this is a fantastic opportunity to get to Europe! We don’t get the right to blame disappointing losses on having too many games to play and not enough recovery time. This season we have got to smash every game.
With Arsenal not in full strength on our opening game of the season, it’s a great opportunity to start the season with a bang and a chance to build that ever important momentum for the rest of the season. By the time this article is up it may or may not be after the Arsenal game so keep that in mind when you’re reading this after Arsenal has beaten us 10-0.
The depth in the squad has improved since last season, with new signings and players back from injury, the possible lineups we could start with are limitless and can be changed depending on certain teams playing styles and such. Need more pace? Mané. Need more physicality in midfield? Grujic. Need more sloppily conceded goals? Moreno. (I joke but there’s a hint of seriousness here.)
But yes, things are looking up at Liverpool. We’ve improved our team considerably with players that fit the playing style, not splashing crazy amounts of cash on a single player just because. Klopp and Buvac are smart guys and they know how to build a team. They also know how to win titles and trophies. Maybe this season can be the season we get some silverware with Klopp as our manager. Maybe.
As much as it’s nice to think about winning trophies, winning them is a different story. And I have no doubt in my mind that Klopp will bring some silver to our trophy cabinets. Who knows, maybe we will be seeing silver this season? Who knows.
