Liverpool’s midfield was a problem area during the 2025/26 season, but there are a number of options being mooted to come in and fix that issue ahead of next term.
It has been known for a while now that after an impressive campaign with Crystal Palace, which included a Europa Conference League win, Adam Wharton is a dream target for the Reds.
But now that Andoni Iraola has replaced Arne Slot as Liverpool manager, a move for Bournemouth midfielder Alex Scott is being mooted as well.
At present, though, Wharton is thought to be the more likely addition this summer, it has been claimed.

Liverpool more likely to sign Adam Wharton than Alex Scott
David Lynch has been speaking about Liverpool’s potential midfield signings during an interview with Anfield Index this week.
When doing so, he shared that he expects Wharton, not Scott, to be the more likely midfield signing this summer.
He said: “I mean Alex Scott he ticks a lot of boxes in terms of we know Liverpool have scouted him in the past before he moved to Bournemouth.
“Like I say homegrown very good player. He probably will make that step at some point very soon. So and it could even be this summer.
“So it’s like it’s not you know completely out the question that that he would sign but you know is he or has he been at the top of Liverpool’s list for this summer coming into it? You know, I would have said Adam Wharton was ahead of him as a player Liverpool were likely to sign.”

But given Iraola is now Liverpool coach, some fans may still think their chances of landing Scott this summer.
The pair had much success together during 2025/26, seeing the Cherries secure Europa League football and finish just one position below the Reds in the Premier League table.
Scott has also commented on Iraola since it was confirmed he was replacing Arne Slot.
He said: “He is obviously a great manager; you see what we have done as a club at Bournemouth and how we have progressed over the three seasons he was with us.
“I think the way we press out of possession is very aggressive, maybe similar to the early Klopp teams Liverpool had, that fierce aggressiveness and pressing with the wingers. I would say he is similar to that. Liverpool fans should definitely be so excited.
“He has done it with us and, obviously, Liverpool is a bigger club and a massive club in the Premier League, but I believe there is no reason why he can’t go in there and be a top manager and take them back to the level they were at.”
