Liverpool’s latest transfer round-up brings another busy mix of attacking uncertainty, midfield movement and background noise around the club’s recruitment team.
Cody Gakpo’s future is suddenly under scrutiny, while Liverpool’s hopes of landing Yan Diomande before the World Cup appear to be fading. Adam Wharton remains on the radar at Crystal Palace, and there is fresh information around what he could actually cost.
Away from the pitch, Richard Hughes’ long-term future is still a story to watch, with Al Hilal pushing to appoint him. Mateus Fernandes and Jan Paul van Hecke also feature, although those two feel more like watchlist or missed-opportunity updates for now.
You can only pick ONE player for Liverpool to sign this summer, who is it?
Who should Richard Hughes be targeting above all…
Liverpool transfer round-up latest
Cody Gakpo exit concern grows
The biggest immediate player-exit story is around Cody Gakpo eyeing a Liverpool exit, with Aston Villa and Tottenham among the clubs said to be alert to the situation.
Gakpo had a difficult season under Arne Slot, and the rise of Rio Ngumoha has added another layer to the situation. Liverpool are not actively trying to sell him, but if he is unsure of his role under Andoni Iraola and a significant offer lands, this could quickly become one to watch.
Yan Diomande deal slows before World Cup
Liverpool’s push for Yan Diomande before the World Cup is starting to look more difficult, despite formal engagement with RB Leipzig.
The issue is not simply Liverpool or PSG. Leipzig are still waiting for Diomande to make it clear whether he wants to leave or sign a new contract. Until then, the fee is expected to remain extremely high, in excess of €100m, and the chances of a quick pre-tournament deal are beginning to fade.
Adam Wharton price may be lower than feared
There is at least a more encouraging midfield update, with Liverpool told they may be able to sign Adam Wharton for far less than £100m.

David Lynch has suggested the nine-figure price tag around the Crystal Palace midfielder is not accurate, and that Liverpool have already done plenty of groundwork on the England international. A deal still feels expensive, possibly in the £60m-70m range, but that is very different from £100m and could keep him alive as a serious option.
More Liverpool transfer stuff
There is also an important off-pitch twist, with Richard Hughes close to Al Hilal. The reported plan would see him finish Liverpool’s summer window before moving on, which at least avoids immediate chaos, but it still adds uncertainty at a delicate time.

Jan Paul van Hecke also looks to be slipping away, with the Brighton defender now said to prefer a move to Tottenham after talks with Roberto De Zerbi.
It leaves Liverpool with plenty of plates spinning. Diomande is still the headline attacking target, Gakpo could become a sale to monitor, Wharton remains a midfield possibility and Hughes’ future gives the whole summer an extra edge.
