The 2025/26 season is thankfully behind us, with a number of Liverpool players now turning their attention towards the World Cup.
Liverpool have several players competing in North America over the coming month or so, including Florian Wirtz.
Wirtz had a mixed debut season at Anfield, but he is now being backed to be the Player of the Tournament at the 2026 World Cup.

Florian Wirtz backed to be Player of the Tournament at World Cup
RB Leipzig Gaming via TikTok have interviewed a number of the Bundesliga side’s players in the build-up to the tournament getting underway later this week.
Liverpool target Yan Diomande was among those answering the quick-fire questions, with the winger suggesting Ivory Coast will be the biggest surprise at the World Cup, Belgium will be the most disappointing team, and Vinicius Junior will be the Player of the Tournament.
Meanwhile, another potential target of the Reds, David Raum, has backed Wirtz to be the Player of the Tournament.
The German did not pick the Liverpool ace to secure the top goalscorer award, though, instead saying that Arsenal’s Kai Havertz will find the back of the net more than any other player.
Liverpool looked at signing David Raum
As well as Wirtz, Liverpool fans may have one eye on Raum when watching Germany in action this summer.
The versatile left-back scored three and assisted nine in 34 matches for Leipzig across all competitions last term.
And with Andy Robertson now leaving Liverpool to sign for Tottenham Hotspur as a free agent, the Reds could do with some fresh legs at full-back.
Raum has been linked with a move to Merseyside already in 2026, but it is not clear if a move will be pursued.
Kostas Tsimikas will return to Liverpool next season, and unless he is sold, the Greek may become the new back-up to Milos Kerkez now that Robertson is gone.
