There is growing sentiment at Liverpool that fitness coach Andreas Kornmayer is wielding too much influence.
That’s according to a report from Sky Sports today. Taking a deep dive into Liverpool’s shocking drop-off this season, the report has an interesting nugget of information about Kornmayer.
It’s claimed that the German head of fitness and conditioning has become ‘hard to work with’ as his influence has grown. Far from a minority view, this is said to be a ‘large sentiment’ at the training ground.
However, Kornmayer reportedly also has plenty of respect around the place, too. Thanks to the levels Liverpool players have reached under his guidance, the former Bayern Munich coach has a lot of credit in the bank.
What is going on at Liverpool
This is another worrying update in a season full of them. What on earth is going at Liverpool.
Not too long ago the club was a source of pride, an example of how to do things the right way in elite level football. Having won pretty much everything there is to win in the game, that has now completely unravelled.
With the likes of Michael Edwards, Julian Ward and Ian Graham leaving Anfield, things are a mess right now. FSG’s man on the ground Mike Gordon has also stepped away from his duties.
Like Kornmayer, assistant manager Pep Lijnders has faced accusations that he’s partly the reason for such upheaval.
Such notions seem a little fanciful. But it’s plainly obvious that the Dutch coach’s voice has become a louder one in the past 18 months.
Throughout all of this, there’s one thing we must be thankful of, though. Amidst so many key figures leaving, it’s a relief that the absolute irreplaceable one of all of them remains.
That is, of course, Jurgen Klopp. Whatever is going on behind the scenes, as long as Klopp remains, you have faith that things will turn around.
The boss has been a beacon of continuity in an ever-increasingly knee-jerk sport. He may have to reign in his lieutenants ever so slightly, but if Klopp leads the off-field rebuild for Liverpool as well as the on-field one, you won’t find us complaining. Still, not nice to read this to be honest. We need to get our house in order.
