Report: Staff now decide to send 27-year-old Liverpool player home from international duty early

Liverpool midfielder Naby Keita will not play for Guinea during this month’s international break.

As per feguifoot.com, the Liverpool player has been sent home due to his current injury issues. According to the report, the ‘final decision’ on the matter lay with the ‘technical staff’ from the Guinea set up.

Keita is said to be ‘improving,’ but was deemed not ready to play any part in his country’s two upcoming games.

The decision was reportedly taken by staff having read the medical report on Keita provided by Liverpool. It’s said that the 27-year-old will instead continue to build his fitness so as to be fit for Guinea’s next fixtures.

Keita focusing on getting fit

Guinea’s statement draws to a close a slightly bizarre chapter for Keita. Having been injured in August, it had been a shock to see him called up for his nation’s squad this month.

As the midfielder had previously not been included in Liverpool’s Champions League squad, it seemed impossible that he would play. Jurgen Klopp himself said as much when asked about Keita’s situation last week.

But still, Keita remained on the list for Guinea. That alone suggested that there was a chance he would be involved.

As it turns out, it was merely a case of wishful thinking from the African team. As their captain, Keita is a hugely important figure in the squad. It’s understandable that they’d do all they can to have him fit.

Liverpool are likely doing the same. Although their midfield issues are starting to ease, it would still be a boost to have Naby back available.

Klopp has called Liverpool’s No.8 ‘incredible’ via liverpoolfc.com in the past and would love to be able to pick him once again.

Thankfully, the Reds now know that Keita won’t risk aggravating an injury whilst away with his country. Instead, he can hopefully focus on getting back to fitness under the watchful eye of Liverpool’s medical team.
