Mohamed Salah has come in for special praise from Jose Enrique, who believes the Egyptian is ‘unstoppable’ in 1v1 scenarios.
The Liverpool forward has been on a different level this season. He has scored or assisted in 18 of his 20 appearances, scoring 19 goals and assisting nine in all competitions.
It almost feels like the former AS Roma star is peaking for the second time in his Liverpool career. When he arrived at the club, he scored 44 goals and assisted 16 in his debut season.
If he keeps going at this rate, he could break his own personal best and further cement his place in history as the best Premier League winger of all time.
Jose Enrique, who fans will remember fondly, played left-back for the Reds. He is in awe of Salah and believes he is ‘unstoppable.’
He told the Liverpool Echo: “I believe one-v-one, he is a player who is unstoppable. It has to be a team that defends against him more than a one-v-one situation because Mo Salah with space, I believe he will destroy you.
“Apart from maybe van Dijk, I believe he will destroy any other defender. So for me, definitely this season he has been the best player in the world up until now.”
I really hope Salah shines at AFCON and further enhances his reputation. If he were to stay at Liverpool in January, he could probably reach 20 Premier League goals by the start of February.
That is not going to happen, so hopefully he and Sadio Mane can excel at the tournament in Cameroon. Otherwise it will feel a little disappointing from a Liverpool fan’s perspective.
The hope is that Salah can push hard in 2022 in order to win the Ballon d’Or. We know by now that individual excellence isn’t enough. He needs to win the Champions League and either take Egypt to the latter stages of AFCON or win it outright.
