Divock Origi's late winner could be a big omen in 21/22 Premier League title race

After scoring a 94th-minute winner against Wolves, Divock Origi’s late goal could be an omen in Liverpool’s favour in the 2021/22 Premier League title race.

With just seconds to go at Molineux, Jurgen Klopp and his players were set to waste the opportunity to move past Chelsea in the table.

Had the game ended 0-0, Liverpool would now be on 32 points, one behind Chelsea in third. However, the massive result means the Reds are second in the table and trail the new league leaders, Manchester City, by just a single point.

Heading towards Christmas, it’s fantastic that the lads got such an important result. However, Origi’s dramatic involvement is a good omen for Liverpool.

His goals in previous seasons have been hugely important. While fans will fondly remember the incredible scenes against Barcelona in the Champions League, he has several other vital moments as well.

He scored the second goal in the final as Liverpool were named champions of Europe, as well as late winners against Newcastle United and, of course, the almost comical late winner against Everton after Jordan Pickford dropped the ball on the crossbar.

I have no doubt he will play an important role this season and he is set to be more involved in the starting XI in January as Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane will leave for AFCON. So there will be more game time available for the other forwards at the club.

The ideal outcome next month would be for Diogo Jota, Roberto Firmino and Origi all to hit peak form at the same time. That way there will be no drop-off in attacking efficiency in the absence of Mo and Sadio.
