Liverpool are seeing the best version of Thiago at Anfield to date but Rio Ferdinand believes more is to come.
That is an ominous message to the Reds’ domestic and continental rivals as the former Bayern Munich star is playing with class and unreal quality.
His strike to give Liverpool the lead over Porto on Wednesday is one of the purest I’ve ever seen. The fact it travelled as far as it did without landing on the floor is unbelievable.
It was just his fourth start for Liverpool this season as he warms up after injury.
Ferdinand believes that Liverpool aren’t even seeing Thiago’s best yet and, if that’s true, I cannot wait to see what he can produce over the next few months.
“I still think there’s more to come from him in a Liverpool shirt. I think the Thiago we saw at Bayern Munich, dictating play and running games, hasn’t quite come to the fore yet in a Liverpool shirt,” he told BT Sport.
“But I think sometimes it takes time to adjust. Yeah, he’s had games and he’s had time here. But some players adapt at a different rate. The player I saw at Bayern Munich when they won the Champions League, he just purrs.
“You stand there and think, ‘wow, sensational stuff’.”
Liverpool are primed for a successful season having won all their games in the Champions League, while being just four points off the Premier League top spot.
They need to be a little better in the league to keep pace with leaders Chelsea, but they will drop points from time to time, and Jurgen Klopp needs to ensure his side is there waiting to take advantage.
