Romano says Sadio Mane is set for Liverpool contract talks

According to Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano, Liverpool are prepared to meet with Mane and his agents and hold talks over a new deal at Anfield.

He said: “The Liverpool board are prepared to meet Sadio Mane and his agents to discuss his new contract.

“This is an important update for Liverpool because we all talk about Salah. Liverpool are preparing the first approaches with Mane.”

All the talk over Liverpool contracts recently has been about Salah, which is understandable as he is the best player at the club and there remains the scary possibility that he could leave if not paid what he wants.

With that concern in mind, it is great news to hear that Liverpool are now ready to discuss a new contract with Mane, as his deal also expires in 2023.

He might not be as prolific as Salah but his work rate and goals are hugely important to the Liverpool system. He is once again showing this season that he’s the best left-winger in the Premier League and only Salah has scored more than him in the division.

Salah has 11 while Mane has seven and they, along with Diogo Jota and Bobby Firmino, represent the strongest attack in the league.

While I don’t think Mane deserves the same wages that Salah is reportedly demanding, if the club decides to offer him the same or similar, I don’t think you’d find many Liverpool fans unhappy with that.

Hopefully, FSG can soon reach an agreement with the Senegal international as he is hugely important for the club.
