Naby Keita reportedly set to return to Liverpool training this week

Naby Keita will reportedly return to team training this week and it’s a major boost for Liverpool as they look to climb back into the top two in the Premier League.

The Guinean suffered a hamstring injury against Brighton – a blow that saw the Reds’ rhythm disrupted and a two-goal lead dropped in what has to be the most disappointing result of the season.

It was a heartbreaking moment for the visibly frustrated Keita, who has so far been unable to shake the muscle injuries that have plagued him since his move to Anfield.

Keita was really starting to enter a purple patch as well. Goals in back-to-back games against Atletico Madrid and Manchester United showed his ability to make a real impact.

He got an assist in the 5-0 walloping at Old Trafford too, and it seemed as though he avoided injury after a horror tackle from Paul Pogba before he pulled up against Brighton.

Now, however, he is set to return to training – a massive boost for Jurgen Klopp as his side enters the crucial festive fixture list. That has notoriously been a period in which the pretenders disappoint and the contenders thrive.

It’s good and bad news

On one hand, it’s great news to have Keita, who earns £130k-a-week back, as it means more options for Klopp as far as match preparation is concerned. On the other hand, he is set to leave for AFCON at the end of December.

We have to hope he avoids injury with Guinea and that they don’t overuse him, because he really struggles with intense load and he tires easily.

If he can return from AFCON injury free, his Liverpool career could kick on quite nicely.
