Rio Ferdinand says he loves Liverpool forward Diogo Jota

Rio Ferdinand has admitted that he loves Diogo Jota after the Liverpool forward turned in a top performance against Arsenal.

Ferdinand rates the £45million Liverpool star very highly. He had a hand in two goals but could have scored a second if it weren’t for elastic goalkeeping from Aaron Ramsdale.

While Jota’s goal was stunning, I was more impressed with the headed pass he produced to play Sadio Mane in behind in the build-up to Mohamed Salah’s goal.

It seems like all the ‘head tennis’ the Reds have been playing paid off, as he used his neck muscles to power the ball behind the Arsenal backline to set Mane away.

Speaking on his YouTube channel, Ferdinand was effusive in his praise for Jota and underlined the fact that Firmino is arguably higher up the pecking order yet Jota performs at such a high level.

“I love him,” he said. “That’s what I love about Liverpool. He’s not even their starting player. If they’re going to play their first three up front, he doesn’t start.

“Recently, Firmino’s been the man. And I think if Klopp had a final next week, Firmino plays. But he’s got someone who comes in and always delivers. It’s beautiful to see.”

The next five weeks are huge for Jota as he will be Liverpool’s most likely route to goal when Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane leave for AFCON and, while they don’t leave until after Boxing Day, Klopp will hope he can head into the New Year with Jota in fine form.

He has got six goals and two assists this season and will be hoping to get a few more in December, with Liverpool’s fixture list quite congested over the festive period.
