Trent Alexander-Arnold is the best full-back in the world and there are very few in his position with his level of influence.
Only Paul Pogba (7) and Mohamed Salah (7) have more assists than Trent (6) in the Premier League this season and he is a full-back. It’s ridiculous.
In his last five club games, the Scouser has six assists and is now in possibly the most incredible purple patch in his career. With a favourable fixture list ahead, he could add even more.
He also got a hat-trick of assists against San Marino but, given they are the lowest-ranked international side in the world, it wouldn’t be a good look to even count that.
That said, he has now got one goal and nine assists for Liverpool this season in 13 appearances.
It is no secret that Trent has world-class technique and can rival any player in the world for delivery into the box, but the consistency he is now operating with is scary.
His ball into the box for the opener – a Sadio Mane header – was top drawer. But his overlapping run and clinical pass to set up Takumi Minamino for the fourth was even better.
Joao Cancelo is performing wonderfully for Manchester City, yet even he isn’t able to put up the same numbers as Trent. As the Liverpool star has said, he is looking to break records.
He said: “I want to break as many records as I can. I want to make history with my performances and my tallies, and go down in history. For me it is about contributing as much as I can for the team and making sure we win.
“The team trophies are much more important than the personal ones but to use as motivation I do like to set myself targets. The very minimum is always double figures and I’ve hit that already.”
If Trent keeps up his current form and momentum, he could have 15 assists before the New Year and that is not an exaggeration.
