Liverpool youngster Tyler Morton was invited to train with the senior squad on Thursday with the Arsenal game at Anfield beckoning.
It’s not the first time either, with the 19-year-old training with the first team a number of times this week and with the Reds hosting the Gunners at the weekend, he could be involved in their Premier League matchday squad.
Morton was exceptional in pre-season and played with a maturity that made it seem as though he’s been around for several years while his Carabao Cup displays have been more than impressive as well.
The Liverpool Echo reports: “The latest training pictures show Morton fully involved in the training session, which could indicate that he’ll be involved in the squad against Arsenal.”
It’s highly unlikely that Morton starts even if Jordan Henderson isn’t fit to face Mikel Arteta’s side but he could be given a place on the bench which we’ve seen with Neco Williams, Curtis Jones and Harvey Elliott is a good indicator that he will get a chance in the Premier League at some point.
It’s a precursor to actual match involvement and while it’s nto going to come in such a big game, he has shown in cup appearances, in pre-season and in training that he isn’t out of place at this level.
I do wonder if he will be sent out on loan at some point to get consistent match experience to aid his development but for now, he will be over the moon to be training with the likes of Thiago, Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane.
Trent Alexander-Arnold is a generational talent and there won’t be too many coming through the ranks that are on his level or anywhere near it but he will serve as a reminder to young talent in and around the first team about what is possible for those who have talent and the dedication to match.
