According to Calciomercato, Liverpool are interested in signing Porto star Luis Diaz but will need to stump up £50.6million.
Every Liverpool fan should be aware at this stage that Sadio Mane, Naby Keita and Mohamed Salah will not be available for selection in January due to AFCON taking place.
Unless Jurgen Klopp and his coaching staff know something we don’t, they will be shorthanded in attack at the start of 2022 and so there will be a temptation to enter the January transfer market.
Apparently, Diaz is a man of interest.
Calciomercato reports that the Colombian is on the shortlist for Roma, the Reds and Newcastle United but with the competition for his signature said to be fierce, signing him will apparently cost €60million (£50.6m).
That should rule out most sides and Liverpool would be one of them but I highly doubt Porto would really be able to demand a £50.6m asking price for Diaz – as good as he is.
He would be the perfect cover for Sadio Mane and Roberto Firmino with his pace, dribbling and scoring ability all traits that Jurgen Klopp looks for in his forwards.
Diaz has scored 11 goals in all competitions this season and also has two assists but goalscoring is his biggest strength and in many ways, he’s like Sadio Mane.
With Porto likely to be eliminated from the same Champions League group as Liverpool, the Portuguese side might be more willing to part ways with Diaz than if they were likely to progress.
