Liverpool fans have been discussing Nicolas Pepe at Arsenal and have said that signing him is a risk worth taking given Jurgen Klopp’s track record with forwards.
The Reds were interested in signing him back in 2019 and a claim was even made that Liverpool offered him £2.7m/year to join the club and offered £70.9m to Lille.
Arsenal wound up signing him for £72m and since then, his quality hasn’t been on display as regularly as it was in Ligue 1 and Football.London have published an opinion piece stating that Arsenal should sell Pepe if they receive a £25million offer.
Signing Pepe now would mean he would come in as nothing more than a squad player. Mohamed Salah isn’t just the best right-wing in the world but he’s also the best player in the world on current form.
With 15 goals and 6 assists, only Lionel Messi could displace him in Jurgen Klopp’s starting XI but if Pepe was only to come in as his understudy, the Reds’ attacking depth would receive a huge boost.
Salah and Sadio Mane aside, Liverpool’s squad lacks world-class dribblers and while Pepe can be a little predictable at times, he has immense quality when running at defenders.
If you were to surround him with quality, he could achieve a lot more than he has at the Emirates.
Considering he’s an inside forward being played out of position as a wide midfielder I wouldn’t be against the club taking a punt— Chapperz (@Chapperz_7) November 14, 2021
I’d rather us be smart and pay £25M for Nkunku— Kallzz 💫 (@KallzLFC) November 15, 2021
Yes for £25M, I think there is a player there, better players around him, Klopp factor, worth the risk IMO— Keith (@Keithj1983) November 14, 2021
