Liverpool can cope without Mohamed Salah, says Jay-Jay Okocha

Liverpool are set to be without Naby Keita, Sadio Mane and Mohamed Salah in January when they depart for the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).

The Egyptian could be gone for up to a month if Egypt performs well at the tournament and given the electric form that he’s been in recently, there is no hiding the fact that he will be a massive miss for Liverpool.

In all competitions this season, Salah has 15 goals and 6 assists and is vital to Liverpool’s attack. Jurgen Klopp won’t be happy that he has to release his best player when he’s in such good form.

Meanwhile, Jay-Jay Okocha told talkSPORT that Liverpool will be ready for Salah to leave them in the New Year.

“Well, I think you can always put that into consideration, but I think they have a big squad,” Okocha told Ally McCoist and Gabriel Agbonlahor on their Talksport breakfast program.

“They must have done their homework, putting Africa Nations Cup into consideration. And then South American Cups comes up in the summer, which deprives some players of their holidays.

“I think it’s all about how you manage your squad and whoever manages better in January, I think, stands a very good chance of winning the title.”

So long as Liverpool’s African stars can avoid injury during AFCON, things should be okay but it’s ridiculous that there are mid-season international tournaments.

It’s only going to get worse next season when the World Cup takes place in Qatar in December, with the season set to resume just 8 days after the final takes place.
