Jobi McAnuff has hailed Jordan Henderson for his display against England after he scored and assisted on the Three Lions’ way to a 5-0 win.
While his form has been topsy turvy for Liverpool this season, Henderson was fantastic against the Albanians and while you need to take the level of the opponent into consideration, it’s good to see the skipper doing well at international level.
Harry Kane scored a brilliant hattrick but it’s Henderson that has earned praise from Jobi McAnuff, who has called the Reds star a” forgotten man for England.”
While speaking on Soccer Saturday on Sky Sports (13/11/21 at 2:35 pm), he said: “Jordan Henderson is funnily enough almost the forgotten man for England.
“He seemed to be an absolute stone-waller in that position for many years. Of course, the rise of Rice and Phillips has put pay to that.
“But fantastic assist (for Kane header). He was heavily involved in the night. He always showed for the ball and demanded it. He gives England that drive from that position.
“I thought he was fantastic (against Albania). I think Gareth Southgate doesn’t need too much reminding. He certainly put himself back in the picture – that’s a sign of a top player.
“A lot of players would have been sulking, not happy they weren’t playing as many games, but he comes in and bang! Puts in a performance that ‘you can’t leave me out now’.”
Hopefully, Henderson, who earns £190,000/week, can carry this form into the Arsenal game for the Reds in what is now a must-win game for Jurgen Klopp and co. after the defeat to West Ham before the international break.
Sitting in fourth, Liverpool need to raise their level to use the festive fixture list to get their Premier League title challenge back underway.
