Could Liverpool transform Neco Williams into an attacking bright spark?

After scoring for Wales, some fans on social media have suggested that Liverpool could turn Neco Williams into an attacker, given his recent performances at right-back.

The Welshman is only valued at £7.2m, but he’s a very talented player. That much is clear to see to all and has been since he grabbed set up a late equaliser for Divock Origi in the EFL Cup against Arsenal.

The Reds wound up winning the match 5-4 on penalties after it ended 5-5 in regular time. Fans immediately sang his praises on Twitter and marvelled at how Jurgen Klopp was blessed with two attacking right-backs.

However, since then, it seems as though Williams isn’t as suited to playing at right-back as he is playing further forward and it raises the question: could Jurgen Klopp transition him into a more attacking role for the Reds?

Don’t worry. I’m not about to argue that FSG doesn’t need to sign a new forward as cover for Mo Salah just because Williams can crack it in a more attacking role.

Rather, I think there is the potential for Klopp to experiment with Williams off the bench either on the right-wing or in a right-sided attacking midfield role.

My Revenge On Ben Foster

It’s important to note that his best performances have come against lesser opponents in Preston North End and Belarus but having said that, he has shown great promise in the final third compared to his defensive displays.

While Trent Alexander-Arnold has been criticised for his ability to stop attackers, Williams is a far cry worse defensively but he shouldn’t be cast aside.

Liverpool can still turn him into an effective player and in Klopp’s system hard work can pay off just as much as the quality of the player does and Williams would be more than willing to put in the hard yards.

Hopefully, Klopp or Pep Lijnders has been paying attention to his quality in the final third and gives him a chance in attack or midfield for Liverpool.
