Liverpool reportedly want to ‘accelerate’ talks to sign Gleison Bremer from Torino, with the Brazilian’s price set at £8.5million.
After Torino Granata claimed that Liverpool are looking to buy another centre-back and are expected to sign Bremer, they have followed up on the story.
If you take their word as fact, the Reds look as though they are seriously trying to sign Bremer, which seems unlikely purely based on Liverpool’s impressive depth at centre-back.
Jurgen Klopp has Virgil van Dijk and Joel Matip as his first choice pairing and has Ibrahima Konate and Joe Gomez – a duo that would start for most teams in the Premier League – as well as Nathaniel Phillips to choose from.
Following up on their story from earlier this week, Torino Granata claims there is ‘particular’ interest in Bremer from Liverpool and that they have been following him ‘for at least a year’.
Additionally, they say that talks ‘could accelerate already in January’ as the Merseysiders want him for the second half of the 2021/22 Premier League season.
The centre-back is valued at €10million (£8.5m) by Torino, which isn’t a huge fee for a club like Liverpool. But it would be a waste to allocate those funds to signing another centre-half when a midfielder to replace Gini Wijnaldum has yet to be signed, while a versatile attacker is also required to provide cover for Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane.
It would be a bit odd if Liverpool bought Bremer after signing Konate, who is on the bench for most games and has played just 360 minutes this term, compared to the 1126 minutes Matip has been given by Klopp.
If FSG are going to sanction any signings, they had better come further afield to help their German manager win more silverware for the club.
