According to a report from El Nacional , Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp wants Ousmane Dembele at Anfield and the Reds are prepared to pay him a massive signing-on bonus.
Looking past his obvious injury issues, the Frenchman is a fantastic player and one that genuinely has the potential to be one of the very best in the world.
So much so that new Barcelona manager Xavi said upon signing for the Catalonians: “For me, Dembele, he can be the best player in the world in his position.
“But you have to work with him and demand it. It depends on him, on his mentality, that he is free from injury, that he has high-performance levels.
“His renewal is a priority for me.”
Dembele’s current contract is set to expire in the summer and, while Barcelona’s new boss is desperate to keep hold of him, his injuries remain a major red flag and Liverpool would be making a major mistake hoping they can sign him and keep him fit.
He has missed over 700 days of football from 14 separate injuries during his time at Camp Nou and that doesn’t happen unless there is a seriously concerning underlying issue with a player’s muscles.
El Nacional claims that Liverpool want Dembele and have “promised Ousmane a higher salary than he earns today, and above all, a signing bonus of 20 million euros (£17.1m).”
Barcelona signed the French forward in 2017, paying £96.8m up front. Since then, Dembele has scored 30 goals and assisted 21.
Roberto Firmino came close to those exact figures in a single season, scoring 27 and assisting 17 in the 2017/18 campaign and it took him 82 games fewer. In short, Liverpool must steer clear.
