Liverpool midfielder Curtis Jones has been absent with an eye injury but will be back in the mix for Jurgen Klopp once the international break is over.
Jones, whose form has been mixed this season, had a his eye scratched in training but will be back soon.
James Pearce responded to a question about the young Scouser from a Q&A for the Athletic: “Curtis got a finger in the eye in training mate. Should be fine after the international break.”
Liverpool have battled with injuries to midfielders recently but Fabinho is back, as is Thiago Alacantara. With Jones back soon, Klopp will hope that Naby Keita follows suit.
Without making too many excuses, much of Liverpool’s poor form can be attributed to the constant injuries to key players.
After the disastrous injury-ridden 2020/21 campaign, you’d have thought the Reds would have more luck this season. But that doesn’t seem to be the case, and it looks as though Klopp will have to deal with injuries to his best players.
Hopefully, that won’t be the case, because I feel like Liverpool have the best starting XI in the Premier League when everyone is fully fit. But it is very doubtful that there will be no more injuries to key players.
As it is, AFCON will see Mohamed Salah, Sadio Mane and Naby Keita miss a very important part of the campaign.
